Fragments

These are painted onto canvases that already carry a painting — my own earlier work, or canvas reclaimed from elsewhere. I keep whatever was still alive and bury the rest, so the ground has a history before I begin. What's underneath goes on working: a colour that won't stay covered, a line surfacing where I didn't put it.
